In the middle of Deflategate, ESPN lobbed the accusation that 11 of 12 Patriots footballs were significantly under the standard air pressure. This wasn’t exactly right from a practical perspective, but because there’s no uniform definition of “significantly,” the network has held off on any retraction and their story stays on their website. However, they do feel kind of bad about Spygate, so they’re going to apologize to the Patriots and their fans for that.

Why now? I don’t know. Maybe they feel this is throwing the Pats a bone that will allow them to weasel out of culpability for the Deflategate story for the next six years or so. Or maybe this is how long it takes ESPN to set the record straight.

Huh. I guess everyone can put this whole Spygate thing to rest. If they hadn’t already done so like five years ago.
