Latest “This Is SportsCenter” Spot Would Like to Remind You That Hockey (And Barry Melrose) Is Back (Video)
In the United States, the start of the NHL season is almost always overshadowed by the start of the MLB postseason. However, it just so happens that, this year, the MLB postseason is overshadowing the start of hockey in Canada, too. Or at least certain parts of it.
The reason for this, obviously, is that the Toronto Blue Jays, Canada’s lone MLB franchise, have reached the postseason for the first time since 1993. So sports fans all over Canada, and Toronto in particular, are a little preoccupied. In fact, at Wednesday night’s season-opener between the Toronto Maple Leafs and Montreal Canadians, fans at the Air Canada Centre were chanting “Let’s Go Blue Jays!” And not in the ironic way they usually do come late March.
Needless to say, if Canadians are barely paying attention to the start hockey, you know Americans are totally out to lunch.
Fortunately, the folks at ESPN created a new “This Is SportsCenter” spot to alert everyone to the start of the 2015-16 NHL Season…by alerting everyone that Barry Melrose (and his mullet) is back in Bristol.
Take a look:
Well played, SportsCenter.
