Chase Utley

Chase Utley has been put on the bench for two games by MLB for a vicious slide into second based that broke Ruben Tejada‘s leg on Saturday night. The suspension is especially damning given that it comes as the series between the Mets and Dodgers is tied at 1-1.

Utley, naturally, plans to appeal the suspension, but better get going fast, since the series isn’t going to wait for him.

It’s pretty hard to argue that the slide wasn’t intentional, and it’s also clear that he was trying to wipe out Tejada’s legs to keep him from making the double play.

We’ll see if the ruling changes or is reversed, but I wouldn’t count on it.
