Sad NFL Headline Of The Day: With Andrew Luck Out, Colts Trying To Get Jason Campbell To Unretire
With franchise quarterback Andrew Luck out 2-6 weeks with a partial abdominal tear and lacerated kidney, 40-year-old Matt Hasselbeck will see if he can turn back the clock like he did earlier this season and get a few more Ws for the Colts.
However, the Colts have another problem: they only had two QBs on their roster. So now they desperately need to find a guy to backup Hasselbeck. Only the pickings are incredibly slim. After Matt Flynn was signed by the Saints, there’s basically just Tim Tebow and Ryan Lindley, the guy who threw for 82 yards, one TD, and two INTs in the Cardinals’ playoff game last year after Carson Palmer and Drew Stanton got injured.
So what are the Colts going to do? According to Pro Football Talk, they’re going to try to lure Jason Campbell out of retirement.
Now, I’ve got nothing against Jason Campbell. With 87 TDs and 60 INTs and a 81.7 passer rating in 79 career starts, he was actually a pretty decent NFL quarterback. Moreover, Campbell started eight games for the Browns when Colts OC Rob Chudzinski was the head coach there, and he’s only 33 years old.
But again, Campbell is retired. And not because he didn’t get any offers in the offseason. So it’s pretty sad when your only option is a guy who just does not want to play.
The Colts might want to burn a couple late round picks on a QB next year.
