With the Oklahoma City Thunder coming to Memphis to play the Grizzlies on Tuesday night, Lausanne Collegiate High School took the opportunity to arrange for rookie point guard Cameron Payne, a 2013 grad, to attend Monday night’s home game and have his high school jersey retired.

The gym wasn’t buzzing with excitement or anything. Cam Payne was a standout who led Lausanne to a state title in 2013, but he played college ball at Murray State and hasn’t exactly established himself as an NBA star. Grizzlies center Marc Gasol also went to Lausanne, so people weren’t going to go nuts over a rookie who plays for a rival team.

Of course, when the rest of the Oklahoma City Thunder players showed up to support Cam Payne, including superstars Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook, that got the gym buzzing. In fact, according to some reports, the kids were “freaking out.”

Take a look:

It was pretty cool of the Thunder to show up and support their teammate like that. Though I guess they did sort of up-stage him a bit.
