The Rangers-Canucks match last night took a frightening turn when Dan Hamhuis, who was hanging back after Vancouver lost the puck deep in their own territory, ended up taking a slapshot to the face.

As you can see from the video below, he fell down instantly, and you can tell from the flurry of kicks on the ice while he’s face down that he was in a great deal of pain.

He was treated off the ice, then hospitalized. While it doesn’t sound like the injuries are life or career-threatening, it does sound like they are serious and will require lots of time to heal:

Few things in sports are scarier than the prospect of taking a puck to the head. Let’s all hope for the best for Dan Hamhuis during his recovery.
