Game-Winning DeMar DeRozan Buzzer-Beater Nullified by Raptors Timeout, Raptors Lose in OT (Video)
The Toronto Raptors fought back from a 16-point deficit against the Hornets in Charlotte on Thursday night to tie the game at 90 with less than half a minute remaining. That in itself was a pretty good achievement considering Kyle Lowry, their best player, was ice-cold (6-for-29 shooting) for most of the night. But the Raptors wanted more. And when Cory Joseph poked the ball away from the Hornets’ Kemba Walker with four seconds left, and DeMar DeRozan dribbled a few feet to mid-court and nailed a three-pointer as time ran out, they thought they got it.
Unfortunately, they did not. As it turns out, Kyle Lowry signalled for a timeout as soon as the Raptors got possession, as did head coach Dwayne Casey. So the refs blew the whistle right before the DeMar DeRozan buzzer-beater:
Take a look:
From there the game went to overtime, but it was all downhill for Toronto. They got outscored 19-9 in the extra frame and lost the game 109-99.
Maybe next time they should forget the timeout and just see how things play out.
