Conor McGregor AND Holly Holm Will Fight (Not Each Other) at UFC 197 in March
Continuing to ride the wave of record-setting fights, the UFC has announced that both Conor McGregor and new women’s champ Holly Holm will both fight at UFC 197 in Las Vegas on March 5th. McGregor, who recently knocked out Jose Aldo in 13 seconds, will square off against Rafael Dos Anjos, while Holm, who shocked Ronda Rousey, will face Miesha Tate.
If this isn’t going to be the biggest UFC event in history, it’s certainly going to be up there.
McGregor will be fighting at a heavier weight class, which would allow him to be one of just a few fighters in history (the others being B.J. Penn and Randy Couture) to hold two titles at different weight classes at the same time.
The Holm-Tate fight isn’t thought to be as huge, but Tate remains one of the best women’s fighters, and with Rousey serving a six-month medical suspension, a rematch likely won’t be in the cards until at least June.
If the UFC’s big plans for UFC 197 remain intact until March 5th, it’ll be interesting to see how the company decides to top this card once they begin looking ahead to their highly-anticipated UFC 200 event in July.
