Hockey is one of the roughest, toughest sports around, and every now and then, the physicality between the players spills over and catches a referee.

That’s exactly what happened last night during a game between the Toronto Maple Leafs and Los Angeles Kings at the Staples Center, when the Kings’ Jake Muzzin came darting into the offensive zone and clipped referee Kelly Sutherland in the head with an elbow.

Sutherland remained on the ice for a few minutes, but he was able to make it to the locker room under his own power before returning for the second period.
