Oregon State Basketball Player Jarmal Reid Ejected for Tripping the Referee (Video)
There are lots of ways to get ejected from a basketball game. However, if you’re tired and you just want to sit the rest of one out, the easiest and most direct route to an ejection is to assault one of the officials.
Take Oregon State Beavers senior Jarmal Reid, for example. On Sunday, with just under three minutes remaining in a tight game against Utah, Reid stole the ball from Utah’s Jakob Poeltl. Then Poeltlt lunged at Reid, bumped into him, and knocked him down. When the referees did not call a foul on Poeltl, Reid was like, “fine, I’m going to trip this here referee.” So he stuck out his leg and tripped referee Tommy Nunez as he was running by, earning a flagrant 2 and an automatic ejection.
Take a look:
There’s really no doubt about it. Reid went way out of his way to stick that foot out. And the ejection is not going to be the end of it, either. Reid is looking at a suspension, here. The only question is who will strike first—Oregon State coach Wayne Tinkle (yep, that’s his real name) or Pac-12 commissioner Larry Scott.
