Tennis Match-Fixing Scandal: Novak Djokovic Says He Was Offered $200,000 to Lose a Match
Jo-Wilfried Tsonga Stopped Play at Aussie Open to Help Ball Girl Hit by Ball (Video)
A week or so after Jack Sock reminded us how gentlemanly the game of tennis can be by admitting a ref error in his opponent’s favor, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga went and raised the bar yet again.
In the Aussie Open, a ball girl took a shot across the face and had to be helped off the court. The incident had occurred earlier in the match, but Tsonga noticed the girl was in pain as she fought to continue to do her job.
He halted play to check on her, after the match saying:
“She was really in trouble and the eyes were a bit [teary]. It was just normal to help her to go out of the stadium. I hope she’s going well now. I asked the umpire during the game and she said it’s okay, but with the umpire you never know. I will double check if she’s well now.”
He ended up beating his opponent Omar Jasika in straight sets.
