Adam Wainwright Calls in to Radio Show to Argue About His Fantasy Value (Audio)
Sirius XM Fantasy Sports held their F.S.T.A. Experts Fantasy Baseball Draft on Tuesday, which would not have been noteworthy at all had St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Adam Wainwright not called into the show personally to debate his fantasy value.
The 34-year-old right hander has been one of the best starting pitchers in baseball over the last decade. However, he missed most of the 2015 season after rupturing his achilles while running to first base, and at the age of 34, some “experts” are skeptical that he’ll be able to return to his previous form.
Of course, being the 22nd pitcher selected really isn’t as terrible as it sounds. Especially when you consider the guys drafted ahead of him. And to be fair, Wainwright wasn’t exactly flying off the handle. Instead, it sounded like he was just having a bit of fun.
Have a listen:
Personally, I’m inclined to agree with Wainwright that he will make a strong comeback. Pitchers like him tend to be very productive into their mid- to late-30s. Plus the guy did recover from his achilles injury way sooner that doctors thought possible last year. And you’ve got to love how fired up he is to prove doubters wrong.
That said, I also like to play things safe. So there’s still probably 15 or 16 guys I’d take before him.
Sorry, Adam. Feel free to message me if you’d like to discuss it.
