Panthers and Broncos Both Hoping Super Bowl Uniforms Bring Super Bowl Mojo (Pics)
The Denver Broncos are the designated “home team” at Super Bowl 50. That means they got first pick of uniforms for the big game.
Of course, everybody assumed that the Broncos would go with their iconic orange jerseys. However, perhaps because they are 0-4 in the Super Bowl when wearing orange, it turns out that Denver will become just the fifth home team in Super Bowl history to wear white.
The Broncos’ unexpected choice in turn gave the Carolina Panthers a choice they didn’t think they’d have to make. With their white uniforms off the table, they had three possible combos to chose from: black jerseys with silver pants, turquoise jerseys with silver pants, or, in what would be a Super Bowl first, black jerseys with black pants.
Their choice? Black and silver.
Interestingly, the Carolina Panthers wore their white road uniforms for both of their playoff games so far, despite the fact that they were the home team in both. Thus, one could interpret the Broncos’ unexpected choice as an attempt to play mind games, preventing the Panthers from getting their preference. After all, the team wearing white has won 10 of the last 12 Super Bowls.
Then again, the Panthers just so happen to be one of those two teams in the last 12 Super Bowls to lose wearing white. So maybe they didn’t want white anyway, and everybody got what they wanted.
The only thing we know for sure is that, while uniform choices are fun for fans, they won’t have anything to do with the outcome of the game.
