This Connor McDavid Goal Can Only Be the Result of Some Kind of Black Magic (Video)
Connor McDavid is supposed to be The One for the Edmonton Oilers. The number one overall pick in the 2015 NHL Draft, the 19-year-old center is supposed to be the future superstar who finally returns the proud Oilers franchise to glory.
Of course, before McDavid came along Taylor Hall was The One. Then Ryan Nugent-Hopkins. Then Nail Yakupov. Because the Oilers have been so terrible for so long that they’ve had four of the last six number one picks. And the previous three have failed to fulfill the Oilers’ prophecy about the one. But McDavid, they said, was different. So of course he broke his clavicle in just his 13th professional game back in November, missing the next three months and putting the Oilers’ salvation on hold.
On Tuesday night, however, the Future of the Oilers made his long-awaited return to action. And it was triumphant. The kid had a goal and two assists in the Oilers’ 5-1 win over the Blue Jackets.
The goal? Yeah, McDavid just skated right through two Columbus defensemen like some sort of wizard before deking the goalie right out of his jockstrap and putting the puck into the back of the net.
