Anti-Beyoncé Protest Outside NFL Headquarters Planned for February 16
An anonymous group of internet citizens is organizing an anti-Beyoncé protest outside the NFL’s New York headquarters on February 16. If it actually happens, it will take place nine days after the singer’s controversial performance at the Super Bowl 50 halftime show.
The controversy of course stems from Beyoncé’s performance of her new single, “Formation,” at Super Bowl 50 last Sunday. It referenced the Black Panthers and Malcolm X and was overtly political. So naturally people were OUTRAGED.
Here’s what the organizers of the “Anti-Beyoncé Protest Rally” have to say:
Are you offended as an American that Beyoncé pulled her race-baiting stunt at the Superbowl? Do you agree that it was a slap in the face to law enforcement? Do you agree that the Black Panthers was/is a hate group which should not be glorified? Come and let’s stand together. Let’s tell the NFL we don’t want hate speech & racism at the Superbowl ever again!
Meanwhile, at Fox News…
But seriously, Fox News has led the charge against Beyoncé. On Monday they put former New York mayor Rudy Giuliani on TV to talk about how terrible it was that Beyoncé had ruined America.
“You’re talking to middle America when you have the Super Bowl,” Said Giuliani, apparently unaware that middle America is where Ferguson is. “So if you’re going to have entertainment, let’s have decent, wholesome entertainment. And not use it as a platform to attack the people who put their lives at risk just to save us.”
Obviously, Beyoncé’s performance had a political message, and it merits serious discussion. But don’t be fooled. Fox News and the people behind this protest are not interested in having a serious discussion about important issues. They’re interested in getting people upset and angry.
So here’s an idea: how about everybody just chill and stop going nuts over every little thing you disagree with? If you didn’t like what Beyoncée had to say, don’t buy her records and don’t pay $300 for tickets to her concert. If you don’t like that the NFL had her perform during the Super Bowl halftime show, don’t watch the NFL.
