NBA All-Star Game 2015

Sure, getting picked to be among the NBA’s most elite players for a weekend of parties culminating in a laid-back, defense-less game is a great honor, but it pales in comparison to the latest gift the NBA has bestowed upon its best: personalized emojis.

They were designed as a way to get fans more active in tweeting about their favorite players. In order to activate the emojis, just tweet #firstnamelastname, and you’re good to go.

As the below chart shows, some players get emojis based on their appearance, and some on their nicknames.

Will this work? Maybe. Tweeting about sports, unless you’re a reporter, is pretty much nonsense, and so is the All-Star game, so emojis are actually a pretty good fit for this level of discourse.
