Thunder Coach Monty Williams Preaches Forgiveness at His Wife’s Funeral (Video)

Oklahoma City Thunder coach Monty Williams experienced a personal tragedy last Wednesday when his wife was killed in a car accident.

Ingrid Williams was hit head on by another car that had crossed over the center line while going 92 mph in a 40 mph zone. The other driver, a woman identified as Susannah Donaldson, also perished in the crash.

Given the senseless nature of the accident, few would blame Monty Williams for feeling bitter and unsympathetic toward the other driver and her family. However, it just so happens that he chose a different path. At his wife’s funeral on Thursday, Williams concluded her eulogy by preaching forgiveness.

“We cannot serve the Lord,” Williams explained, “if we don’t have a heart of forgiveness. That family didn’t wake up wanting to hurt my wife. Life if hard. It is very hard. And that was tough. But we hold no ill will toward the Donaldson family. And we, as a group, brothers united in unity, should be praying for that family, because they grieve as well. So let’s not lose sight of what’s important.”

Powerful stuff. It’s not hard to understand why Monty Williams is so well-liked around the league.
