The Seattle Sounders lost to Club America by a score of 3-1 at Mexico City’s Estadio Azteca on Wednesday night, eliminating them from the CONCACAF Champions League.

For Sounders forward Clint Dempsey, the loss felt like a cleat to the face. Mostly because he actually took a cleat to the face.

About 27 minutes into the game, Dempsey got tangled up with Club America captain Rubens Sambuenza and fell to the ground, at which point Sambuenza stepped right on his face.

Here’s the video:

And here are a couple of GIFs giving you closeups from other angles:

That probably hurt a lot, and it did draw blood, so Dempsey had to step off the pitch for a few minutes while the Sounders’ medical staff patched him up.

However, you’ll notice that, instead of grabbing his face and rolling around on the ground like a wiener, Dempsey channeled his inner hockey player, sat right up, and was like DAMN MOTHERF*CKER WHY’D YOU STEP ON MY MOTHERF*CKING FACE?!

It’s a shame more soccer players can’t be that badass.
