Duke Center Marshall Plumlee Breaks Nose, Returns Minutes Later to Score Winning Bucket (Video)
The box score says Duke center Marshall Plumlee had a pretty good game against NC State to kick off the ACC Tournament, with the big man contributing 17 points, 10 rebounds, and four blocks.
What the box score doesn’t tell you is that five of those points and three of those rebounds came in the last seven minutes of the game, after the dude suffered a painful broken nose.
With about eight minutes left on the clock and Duke up six on the Wolfpack, Plumlee took an elbow from teammate Matt Jones right to the bridge of his nose. It forced Plumlee to sub out of the game so the trainer could take a look at it, and a TV closeup showed his schnoz had a pretty nasty dent in it:
However, his team needed him, so Plumlee subbed back in a few minutes later. And with just over a minute left in the game and the score tied 89-89, Plumlee collected an offensive rebound and went back up—through a sea of NC State elbows, no less—for what turned out to be the winning bucket.

While I really enjoy hating on Duke, who are more hatable than ever this year thanks to Grayson Allen, you have to give credit where credit is due. And right now, credit is due to Marshall Plumlee for a gutsy, selfless performance.
