REPORT: RG3 Picked Cleveland Because of His Love for Bone Thugs N Harmony
Yesterday Robert Griffin III made huge headlines by signing with the Cleveland Browns. For the past few months there’s been nonstop speculation where the Washington Redskins quarterback would land. Many analysts linked him to Denver and San Francisco. But Griffin ultimately chose Cleveland, in a two year deal for $15 million. The contract includes $6.75 million guaranteed, and the ability to make at $22 million, if he hits certain incentives.
Many people feel this puts the nail in the coffin for RG3’s career, but Griffin said there was one main reason he chose Cleveland – Bone Thugs N’ Harmony. Apparently Griffin was always a huge fan of the popular 90s rap group and always dreamed of living in the same city as melodic rap group. Griffin told Yahoo! Sports, “E. 1999 Eternal was one of my favorite albums growing up. Cleveland gets a bad rap, but I always dreamed about living in the same city as Bizzy, Layzie, Krayzie, Wish, and Flesh. In fact I still rock “1st of Tha Month” everyday.”
Griffin is not the first NFL player to choose a city for their favorite rapper. Last year DeMarco Murray signed with the Eagles because of his love for Will Smith’s music. After signing his deal he tweeted:
“It’s always been my dream to play in the same city that produced a rapper who out hot tracks as “Summertime” and “Gettin’ Jiggy Wit It.”
If this trend continues many analysts feel numerous NFL players might actually bolt from the NFL to join The Canadian Football League because of their love of Drake. An unnamed wide receiver with flamboyant hair from the New York Giants told the New York Post, “I love playing in NYC, but Drake’s voice speaks to me. I could totally see myself playing for the Toronto Argonauts.
