Lil Wayne’s Young Money Sports Has It’s First Client in FSU Linebacker Reggie Northrup (Pic)
So Lil Wayne started a sports agency called Young Money Sports. Why? Because that’s just what rappers do now. First it was Jay-Z and his Roc Nation Sports. Then it was Birdman and his Cash Money Sports. Now Weezy has Young Money Sports, which this week signed their first client in Florida State linebacker Reggie Nortrup.
He made it official on Instagram Tuesday:
Now, Northrup is no Robinson Cano or even Mike Evans, the first clients of Jay-Z and Birdman, respectively. Northrup is listed as the 18th-best linebacker in the class of 2016 and about 370th overall, which means there is a distinct possibility that he goes undrafted this year. However, Lil Wayne met Northrup while he was working out in California ahead of the NFL combine, and according to TMZ’s sources, “Weezy was blown away by Reggie’s work ethic and drive.” So, um, that’s cool.
Of course, Young Money Sports won’t be negotiating Northrup’s football contracts. They’re just handling his marketing and branding, while Rep 1 Sports will be helping him find employment in the NFL.
“Lil Wayne seen something in me,” Northrup told the Tallahassee Democrat. “He’s seen me play. He wanted to start something up, and get involved in the sports world. He’s a big fan of sports. He liked my game, and they wanted to do something with me. They’ve been supporting me through this process, and I’m blessed to be affiliated with them.”
This should be interesting.
