I’m sure there are a lot of fans and players that would like to celebrate their World Series win in front of the team they beat as much as possible, but the Kansas City Royals aren’t that kind of team.

Last night, during the Royals’ home opener, the highlight video and celebration from their championship last season was shown while their World Series rivals, the New York Mets, were standing right in front of them.

The ability to rub the win in the faces of the Mets players one more time didn’t seem to outweigh the uncomfortable feeling of Sunday’s pregame ceremony. According to Royals manager Ned Yost, it was “awkward.” He’d even go on to say, “I think I would have enjoyed it more if we played another team.”

I think the Kansas City Star described it best when they said it was “a bit like sending your ex pictures of your honeymoon,” which doesn’t sound very fun, does it?
