Incredible Cricket Catch from Indian Premier League Reminds Us Cricket Can Be Pretty Awesome (Video)
Cricket is obviously inferior to baseball. The sport doesn’t have a type of hat named after it, and all the rules are written, so you don’t even have stuff for grumpy old cricket players to complain about.
Oh hey, look at that! We’ve got one of those incredible plays right here! It comes to us from an Indian Premier League game between the Delhi Daredevils and Royal Challengers Bangalore.
Daredevils batter Shreyas Iyer smashes what looks certain to be “a four,” which is a hit that lands inbounds before going out of bounds and is good for an automatic four runs. (So kind of like the cricket equivalent of a bases loaded triple.) However, the Royals Challengers’ Shane Watson managed to catch up to the ball and make an over-the-head catch on a full sprint. Then, when he realized his momentum was going to take him out of bounds, invalidating his catch, Watson tossed the ball back inbounds while leaping out of bounds (like a basketball player), and his teammate David Wiese made a diving catch without touching the barrier, thus completing the out.
Don’t worry, it’ll make sense when you watch it:
Man, if I lived in India I could so get into cricket.
