Tiger Woods Plays First Holes Since Last August to Christen His New Golf Course (Video)

tiger woods plays first holes since august opens new course

Golf legend Tiger Woods had not played a single hole of golf since the Wyndham Championship last August. At least, not in front of people.

That changed yesterday at the grand opening of Bluejack National Golf Club. As the designer of the course, it was only fitting that Tiger should hit the ceremonial first drive. But he gave the folks in attendance more than that, going on to play five holes with Mark O’Meara much to everyone’s delight.

Here’s the ceremonial first drive, which Tiger hit right down the middle of the fairway:

Here he his taking his first approach shot, looking pretty damn smooth:

And here he is looking a little less smooth on the par 5 18th:

So is a Tiger Woods return eminent? Not quite. But it’s definitely closer than it was a few months ago, when Tiger—who has had three back surgeries in the last nine months—wasn’t even sure if he was going to be able to pick up his kids again, let alone play golf.

“I’m definitely a little tired,” Tiger said after his ceremonial return, “but I feel pretty good. I haven’t been out here playing like this. I hadn’t played any holes until today. I know people have said I’ve played holes back at Medalist, but I haven’t. This is actually the first time I’ve played holes since Wyndham. It’s been awhile.”
