Three-Run Giancarlo Stanton Bomb Brings Clayton Kershaw to His Knees (Video)
It’s not easy to bring a pitcher like Clayton Kershaw to his knees. But if anybody can do it, experience says it’s Giancarlo Stanton.
Over the last several years, Stanton has made a habit of hitting monstrous, jaw-dropping, demoralizing, home runs off some of the best arms in baseball. On Tuesday night he did it to Kershaw at Dodger Stadium.
Kershaw was humming along through five innings against the Marlins, having struck out eight and given up just one hit. However, after getting the first out in the top of the 6th Kershaw gave up four straight hits, yielding two runs. That set up a showdown with Stanton with two on and one out. And Stanton vaporized Kershaw’s second pitch, sending it to the batter’s eye 433 feet away in right-center field.
All Kershaw could do was drop to his knees and hang his head like he’d just hit a dog with his car.
Take a look:
Kershaw managed to recover after that. He got out of the 6th without allowing any more hits, then went on to record a scoreless 7th as well. But that Giancarlo Stanton bomb proved to be the backbreaker. With one swing of the bat he handed Kershaw his first L of the season and pushed his ERA up to 2.43.
The lesson? It doesn’t matter if you’re the best pitcher on the planet. If you fall behind to Giancarlo Stanton you’re going to see some fireworks.
