Possible Crazy Person Throws Golf Ball with Ear Plug Attached to It at Rory McIlroy and Rickie Fowler, Tells Them It’s a “Present” (Video)
Here’s something you don’t see every day. Or ever, really. At the Wells Fargo Championship on Thursday, a fan threw a golf ball with an ear plug attached to it at Rory McIlroy and Rickie Fowler.
That’s right. Somebody attached an ear plug to a golf ball (Hot glue gun? Bubble gum?) and thew it at two of the world’s best golfers. Unfortunately there is no video if the incident, so you’ll just have to read about it like people did in the olden days.
McIlroy and Fowler were grouped together along with Hideki Matsuyama. On the sixth hole, right after McIlroy hit a brilliant tee shot that passed just inches away from the cup, a crazy fan wearing a neon green hat threw the ear plug ball at them while Fowler was teeing up. At that point Fowler looked up with a confused look on his face. The fan then shouted, “it’s a gift!” and had a brief exchange with Fowler, who was apparently visibly annoyed.
At that point the police detail escorting the group walked over to the fan. But he managed to get in a few more incoherent comments about waste managerment and landfills before they removed him from the course.
Afterward, Rory McIlroy and Rickie Fowler spoke to the media about the bizarre encounter:

Apparently nobody cared what poor Hideki Matsuyama thought about all this.
