German Soccer Coach Tears Hamstring Trying to Run from Celebratory Beer Shower (Video + Pics)
German soccer coach Ralf Rangnick recently learned an important lesson about celebrating big wins: if your players want to shower you with beer, just go with it.
Ragnick’s team, RB Leipzig, clinched second place in the German second division and their first ever promotion to the Bundesliga with a 2-0 win over Karlsruhe on Sunday. That’s a big deal. So after the game, players were given giant glasses (vases, really) of beer with which to celebrate. And naturally, one of the players—striker Davie Selke—decided it would be appropriate to douse the coach with his victory beer.
Unfortunately, Ragnick didn’t want to be doused with victory beer. So he tried to run away from Selke. Only Ragnick is 57 years old, so he couldn’t. And while trying he wound up pulling a hammy.
A little while later, when asked if he’d talked to his coach about the injury, Selke gave a pretty great answer.
“No, I’m too scared!” he said, according to The Guardian. “That’s why I’m giving so many interviews, so I don’t have to go back to the dressing room. I’ll have to run away. He definitely tried to run from me, which isn’t a good idea—I caught him up, I won the race. Then something happened, he probably didn’t warm up enough!”
Good thing you don’t need your hamstrings to coach soccer.
