Citing crime and political unrest (but not mentioning the ecological messes abundant in the country), soccer legend Rivaldo has urged all foreigners planning on attending the Brazil Olympics this summer to just stay home.

He said publicly:

“Things are getting uglier here every day. I advise everyone with plans to visit Brazil for the Olympics in Rio to stay in their country of origin. Your life will be in danger here. This is without even speaking about the state of public hospitals and all the Brazilian political mess. Only God can change the situation in our Brazil.”

Not a glowing endorsement from a national spokesman, but perhaps an important message. He posted an Instagram photo earlier of a 17-year-old woman who was killed just days ago in a shootout in Rio de Janeiro.

Ticket sales have been sluggish due to foreign concern over the host country, as well as a national economic slump that prices out many locals who would otherwise attend.
