Mets CF Juan Lagares Channels Willie Mays for Ridiculous Over-the-Head Basket Catch (Video)
New York Mets center fielder Juan Lagares reminded everyone why he won the 2014 Gold Glove and Fielding Bible awards with a spectacular running over-the-head basket catch against the Washington Nationals on Wednesday night.
The Nationals were up 3-1 with runners on second and third and one out in the top of the seventh. Former Met Daniel Murphy, last year’s post-season hero, ripped a pitch from Mets reliever Antonio Bastardo to straight away center field. Against most center fielders the ball falls in, two runs score, and Murphy winds up on second or third. But Lagares tracked it down and made a ridiculous catch look routine.

This was not the first time Lagares has done this. He actually made a running over-the-head basket catch last April that was even better than the catch he made Wednesday:
Any time you draw comparisons to Willie Mays you’re doing something right. To have it happen more than once is pretty special.
