Russian MP Applauds Country’s Rioting Fans at Euro 2016

A Russian member of parliament took to Twitter to share his thoughts on the outbreak of rioting England and Russia fans during their countries’ match at the European Championships over the weekend. The MP, who is also on the executive committee of the Russian football union, gave interviews that seemed to ignore the fan’s violent behavior in favor of blatant homerism— which is in keeping with the country’s totalitarian political practices.

He said in an interview:

“In nine out of 10 cases, football fans go to games to fight, and that’s normal. The lads defended the honour of their country and did not let English fans desecrate our motherland. We should forgive and understand our fans.”

Nice, right?

He also said on Twitter, “I don’t see anything wrong with the fans fighting. Quite the opposite, well done lads, keep it up!”

“I don’t understand those politicians and officials who are criticising our fans. We should defend them, and then we can sort it out when they come home.”

Something tells me their homecoming wouldn’t result in much punishment.
