Back in 2004, former Miami Dolphins running back Ricky Williams was facing yet another suspension because of a failed drug test, and decided to retire from the game instead. It was pretty much understood Ricky retired to pursue his passion for smoking weed, but no one knew for sure until he verified those accusations recently.

In an upcoming Sports Illustrated film, Ricky Williams said those accusations weren’t entirely false.

“It’s kind of true, but not the way that people see it, that I quit football to go smoke weed,” Williams explains in the feature set to be released on July 13.

Of course, Williams came back to the league in 2005 after serving his 4-game suspension.  Then came yet another failed test that made him sit out the entire 2006 season and miss 9 games of the 2007 season.

Without the weed suspensions, we can only wonder what Ricky Williams’ career could have been.
