Retiring Red Sox Legend David Ortiz Gave a Solid Farewell Speech Prior to His Final All-Star Game (Video)
Last November, Boston Red Sox legend David Ortiz celebrated his 40th birthday by announcing that he would retire at the end of the 2016 MLB season. However, in June he said he wished he hadn’t told everyone in advance.
“I’m too busy. I have too many things to do. I barely have time to do anything,” Ortiz explained. “If I had even imagined that it would be so difficult, I wouldn’t have announced anything. There are too many people I have to pay attention to, and on top of that I have to prepare for a game.”
Case in point: on Tuesday night, prior to his final MLB All-Star Game, Ortiz was tasked with making a farewell speech in the AL clubhouse.
Take a look:
That was a pretty solid speech. It was no “This Is Our F*cking City,” but it wasn’t bad.
In the end Ortiz probably relished the opportunity to address his peers and share some of his observations. But there’s probably part of him that would have preferred to just sit back and soak it all in instead of having to deal with all the extra attention.
