Katy Perry Premieres Her New Olympic Anthem, “Rise” (Video)
Katy Perry is no stranger to bombastic, inspirational songs meant to lift people up, so it makes sense that she would be recruited by NBC to put an anthem together for the upcoming Olympics in Rio.
The new song is called “Rise,” and it’s more than a song to her. It’s something that can unify us and allow us to heal and rise. Or so she says:
“I was inspired to finish it now, rather than save it for my next album, because now more than ever, there is a need for our world to unite,” said Katy Perry. “I know that together we can rise above the fear – in our country, and around the world. I can’t think of a better example than the Olympic athletes, as they gather together in Rio with their strength and fearlessness, to remind us how we ALL can come together, with the resolve to be the best we can be. I hope this song can inspire us to heal, unite, and rise together.”
Not a bad goal. I’m not sure it will fix humanity, but given the shape of the world these days, it certainly can’t hurt to try, can it?
