Calvin Johnson Joins ‘Dancing with the Stars,’ So Now You Have to Watch It
You know your football franchise is headed in the wrong direction when a 30-year-old man would rather pay you $3 million to put on a sequined shirt and dance the mamba instead of collecting a $16 million paycheck on the gridiron.
Such is the case with the Detroit Lions and Calvin Johnson. When Megatron announced his retirement in March, he didn’t just walk away from the $67.7 million the Detroit Lions owed him over the next four years. He also had to pay back $3.2 million previously paid to him as a signing bonus.
Now comes news that the former NFL superstar will be taking his unprecedented combination of size, speed, and agility to the 23rd season of ABC’s Dancing with the Stars.
The folks at Entertainment Tonight broke the story. Johnson will join Indycar driver James Hinchcliffe and Olympians Ryan Lochte and Laurie Hernandez, along with random celebrities like Amber Rose, former Texas governor Rick Perry, and Vanilla Ice, who we have to assume will dance to “Ice Ice Baby” at some point.
Of course, Megatron will not be the first nor the greatest NFL player to grace the DWTS ballroom. Jerry Rice, Emmitt Smith, Kurt Warner, Hines Ward, and Antonio Brown have all appeared on the hit ABC reality series.
Sounds like must-see TV to me.
