President Obama on Colin Kaepernick: ‘He’s Exercising His Constitutional Right’ (Video)
After the initial outrage wore off about San Francisco quarterback Colin Kaepernick’s silent protest—where he chose to stay seated during the playing of the National Anthem—the tide quickly turned over the past week.
Kaepernick went from 20th in Jersey sales on the 49ers to the top selling jersey on the team after his protest. On Sunday, soccer star Megan Rapinoe followed his example and kneeled during the playing of the National Anthem as well, with a ‘nod to Kaepernick’.
On Monday, President Obama was asked about Kaepernick and the wave of critisicm he has gotten, and he defended him by stating he was exercising his constitutional right by protesting the way he did.
“I don’t doubt his sincerity, based on what I’ve heard. I think he cares about some real, legitimate issues that have to be talked about.”
