Twenty-four hours later and the sports world is still in shock about the Miami Marlins’ 24-year-old star pitcher, Jose Fernandez, and his sudden and tragic death during a boating accident in the early morning hours on Sunday.

Fernandez absolutely loved the game and will be remembered for moments such as this:

Team owner Jeffrey Loria stated on Monday to reporters that nobody will ever wear #16 again as they plan to retire his number after Monday night’s game against the New York Mets.

“There are plenty of numbers they can wear. But not that one. We’ll let them use triple digits if we have to,” Loria told WPLG Local 10′s Will Manso.
