Jose Fernandez’s Childhood Friend Aledmys Diaz Blasts His 1st Career Grand Slam (Video)
You can’t write a better script than this.
On Monday, Dee Gordon, teammate of the recently deceased Miami Marlins pitcher Jose Fernandez, honored his friend by taking a pitch right-handed, then switching to left-handed and proceeding to hit a home run to right field.
On Tuesday, Jose Fernandez’s childhood friend, Aledmys Diaz of the St. Louis Cardinals, hoped to do something just as special for a man he knew his entire life. And did he ever.
In his second at bat since being back from visiting the home of Jose Fernandez, Diaz smacked his first career grand slam against the Cincinnati Reds and proceeded to walk out on the front steps and raise his helmet to honor his friend.
