Tom Brady, Cam Newton Among Celebs Who Purchased Ownership Stake In UFC
Tom Brady is now part owner of the UFC, along with Cam Newton, Serena Williams, and Maria Sharapova.
When Hollywood talent and sports agency WME-IMG purchased the UFC for $4 billion back in July, they offered a number of their most lucrative clients the opportunity to invest in the MMA promotion. On Thursday night, Conan O’Brien announced that he was part of this select group of investors.
“After the UFC deal was announced, WME—William Morris Endeavor—gave some of their clients an opportunity to purchase a small ownership stake in the UFC. I’m excited to announce that I was one of those clients,” O’Brien announced. “I said yes and so now I technically own a piece of the UFC. I am now part of a group of investors that includes Ben Affleck, Tom Brady, Mark Wahlberg, Adam Levine, Cam Newton, LL Cool J, Maria Sharapova, Serena Williams, Sylvester Stallone, just to name a very few.”
Also included in the investor group is Tyler Perry. So I guess that probably means UFC 205 will be renamed Tyler Perry’s Madea Goes to UFC 205.
Take a look:
On paper this whole thing is a win-win for everybody. The agency’s VIP clients get a prestigious investment opportunity. The UFC gets to use their popularity to further legitimize the UFC as mainstream entertainment.
Unfortunately, because Brady is involved, 90% of the country now has to root for the company to fail.
