Vince Carter #15

Current Memphis Grizzlies SF Vince Carter will forever be a legend for his dunking performance during the 2000 Slam Dunk Contest. Sixteen years later and Carter can still get up there with the best of them, but people always wondered why he never entered the contest a second time.

“These days people say, ‘Oh, why didn’t you defend it?’” Carter said in Sportsnet’s oral history. “Yeah, I could have. But I didn’t want to make a career out of it — didn’t want people to expect me to be there every year. Now if I didn’t win it, that’s a completely different ball game. You know, looking back, I had two dunks I could’ve tried that I didn’t. And I can’t tell you [what they are]. Nope. Can’t tell anybody.”

Then the fine folks at asked Carter the all important question: “Do you think that you could still compete in the dunk contest?”

“It’s possible,” said Carter. “I don’t know if I’d win, but I think I’d make it interesting, to say the least.”

Just the euphoria of him being in the contest again is enough for people to go crazy for ANY dunk he does.
