On Sunday, Getty photographer Tom Szczerbowski captured one of the most amazing sports photographs you’ll ever see during the Bills-Patriots game in Buffalo.

Bills wide receiver Brandon Tate suffered a concussion on a hit by Patriots safety Devin McCourty that forced him to leave the game with just over 10 minutes to play in the third quarter. The hit did not seem particularly vicious at the time. McCourty didn’t leave his feet or target Tate’s head. It was just hard, and Tate did not see it coming.

Take a look:

Amazingly, Szczerbowski managed to snap a high-speed photo of the exact moment Brandon Tate’s momentum shifted. The resulting image is incredibly disturbing.

Here’s the full shot:

That is not a bad attempt to photoshop a crying Jordan on Tate’s head. The photo is completely untouched. That’s what it looks like when a guy gets a concussion.

File that one away in your memory banks and bring it back out the next time you hear somebody complain about how NFL players aren’t tough anymore.
