On Monday night, U.S. Presidential hopeful Donald Trump read an endorsement letter at a New Hampshire campaign rally that he claimed was written by New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick.

At first, people didn’t know what to make of this. On the one hand, Donald Trump has a history of stretching the truth, and it was kind of a weird thing to be reading a letter from a football coach at a campaign rally. Usually celebrities will just show up at the rally in person if they care that much, like Beyonce and Jay-Z and Bruce Springsteen and Jon Bon Jovi recently did for Hillary Clinton.
On the other hand, even for Trump, lying about an endorsement from Bill Belichick on the eve of the election would be pretty crazy. If Belichick didn’t right the letter, he’d probably be pretty pissed and would blow the cover almost immediately.
Well, folks, it turns out Bill Belichick really did write that letter. This morning Steve Burton, sports director at WBZ Boston, got official confirmation.
Bill Belichick did indeed write Donald Trump a letter. The letter Trump read from Belichick is accurate. Those were Bill’s words. #WBZ

So yeah, that’s weird. Not that Belichick would vote for Trump, but that he would offer any public support at all, let alone at the last minute.
Of course, this entire election has been weird, so maybe I shouldn’t be so surprised.
