The Rock on Running for President in 2020: “I Wouldn’t Rule It Out”
Democrats are devastated that Donald Trump defeated Hillary Clinton in last Tuesday’s presidential election. But that doesn’t mean all Republicans are thrilled. Some have gone on record proclaiming Trump’s campaign rhetoric odious and unbecoming for the Leader of the Free World. Meanwhile, exit polls showed that many Trump voters considered him a “risky” choice, given his lack of experience and tendency to change his positions on a dime. And even those who are unabashedly thrilled with the outcome of the election are saddened by all the acrimony.
So who can the nation turn to in its time of despair? To whom can we look to unite our bitterly divided country?
How about certified man of the people Dwyane “The Rock” Johnson?
Back in March, when the primaries hadn’t yet been decided, The Rock tweeted an article by Independent Journal Review making a case for why he should run for President:
Cool piece on why I should run for President. Maybe one day. Surely the White House has a spot for my pick up truck..https://t.co/JpkZ4w1eh3

After the election last week, he posted a message of unity and hope on Instagram:
The most important thing we can do right now is be 100% committed to becoming a better country. Many Americans are heart broken and many Americans are happy. Let’s let the emotions of both sides settle and focus on our future. Concentrate on things we can control… work ethic, attitude, faith etc. We all wear a lot of hats in today’s crazy life we live and the one I’m most proud of is being a father to two beautiful young daughters. At this time the only thing I can do for them is to continue to try my best to lead by example. I don’t know what it’s like to be born into wealth, nor I do I know what it’s like to be a career politician. I do know what it’s like to put in the hard work every day with my own two hands and earn my success from the sweat of my brow. That’s all I know and all I’ll continue to do. Lead by example. I encourage all of you to do the same. We got this. We’re Americans and we forever “Hold the line” – DJ

Now The Rock has revealed that he actually is thinking about running for president someday.
“I wouldn’t rule it out,” he told Vanity Fair, apparently with a big smile on his face, while promoting the animated film Moana in Los Angeles on Sunday. “It would be a great opportunity to help people, so it’s possible. This past election shows that anything can happen.”
The Rock has identified as a Republican in the past, and in 2000 he even spoke at the Republican National Convention. However, he’s also attended the Democratic National Convention, and seems pretty reluctant to villainize one side or the other.
So President Rock? I say what the hell. At least he’s nice to people.
