For the majority of his career, Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo has been known for ill-timed interceptions and injuries, but never have the Cowboys thought about replacing him. Until now.

Rookie QB Dak Prescott is taking the league by storm and has the team atop the entire NFL with an 8-1 record.  And Romo sees the writing on the wall.

In a press conference this afternoon, Romo told reporters he wouldn’t be taking any questions as he had a prepared statement to read:

“He has earned the right to be our quarterback,” Romo said in a prepared statement on Tuesday. “As hard as that is for me to say, he’s earned that right.”

“If you think for a second I don’t want to be out there, then you probably never felt the pure ecstasy of competing and winning,” said Romo, according to Michael David Smith of ProFootballTalk. “That hasn’t left me. In fact, it may burn now more than ever.”

“Football is a meritocracy,” he added. “You’re not handed anything. I still want to play and compete.”
