We all know that soccer is the most dangerous live sport just because the importance of some matches leads fans (OK, “hooligans”) to do crazy stuff like light off smoke bombs, throw rocks at officials and so on.

Several days ago at a lower league match in Argentina, a ref made a foul call against the home team which resulted in the visited team quickly scoring in response. That didn’t sit well with some of the home players, who became violent, which the fans saw as carte blanche to storm the field and beat up some refs.

We’ve got two videos here. The first is of the violent incident and the second is of the fallout and the poor refs looking beaten and battered after the incident concluded.

Here they are. The guys in orange are refs.

Yikes. Does every soccer match need a cage around it?
