Jameis Winston played a major role in the recent five-game winning streak that pulled the Tampa Bay Buccaneers into a tie for first place in the NFC South. Unfortunately, he also played a major role in Sunday’s loss to the Dallas Cowboys that knocked the Bucs out of first place.

Winston threw for 247 yards and two touchdowns in the 26-20 loss to the Cowboys. However, he was just 17 for 35 with three interceptions, four sacks, and a costly headbutt.

The headbutt was absolutely inexcusable. Tampa was trailing 17-6 with three minutes remaining in the first quarter. However, they had moved the ball down to the Dallas eight and were threatening to score. Then, after running back Doug Martin suffered a five-yard loss on 1st and 8, Winston lost his cool and headbutted Dallas linebacker Justin Durant.

While the headbutt looked like it hurt Winston more than Durant, Winston still got flagged for unnecessary roughness. That moved the Bucs all the way back to the Dallas 28, and they eventually had to settle for a field goal instead of a touchdown.

Someone should explain to Winston that this is not what coach meant when he said “use your head.”
