Hawks GM Wes Wilcox Issues Apology For Saying Black Women Are ‘Angry & Argumentative’
Atlanta Hawks GM Wes Wilcox got himself into some deep trouble when he made offensive remarks while speaking at an event on December 7th in front of Hawks season ticket holders.
Wilcox was simply trying to calm their concerns about the state of the franchise, when he attempted a poorly executed racially charged joke.
As retold by Hawks fan Clarenton Crawford and another fan who attended the event:
“I know you guys may be angry with me, but I’m used to it because I have a black wife and three mixed kids, so I’m used to people being angry and argumentative,” Wilcox said.
Wilcox issued an apology through a statement to Deadspin:
“At an early December chalk talk, I made a self-deprecating comment at my own expense regarding my family, which is multi-racial. This joke offended Mr. Crawford and his wife and for that, I apologize.”
