Pablo Sandoval spring training

The Boston Red Sox did not officially tell third baseman Pablo Sandoval he had to lose weight last season. But everyone in baseball knows, yeah, they told him to lose weight. The dude’s belt buckle exploded during an at-bat for Christ’s sake. At one point Sandoval couldn’t run the bases without getting so winded that he had to remove himself from the game.

The good news for Red Sox fans—and Red Sox owner John Henry—is that Kung Fu Panda may actually be able to earn the $53 million remaining on his contract. Sandoval has been working his butt off since his 2016 season was mercifully cut short by a “shoulder injury.” Now it looks like he’s in the best shape of his career.

Don’t worry, ladies. Panda still has some curves. But now he’s fit and ready to rake.

Here’s a photo of Sandoval with Red Sox President of Baseball Operations Dave Dombrowski, taken last month:

And here are some more recent videos of Sandoval:

Good work, Pablo. Baseball fans everywhere look forward to seeing you back in action this season.
