Miami Heat v Boston Celtics

Retired NBA star Amar’e Stoudemire, who currently plays for Hapoel Jerusalem of the Israeli Basketball Premier League and the EuroCup, recently made some comments that raised a few eyebrows.

Walla Sport asked several players from the Israeli Basketball Premier League if they would have a problem suiting up alongside someone who was gay. The majority of them said they wouldn’t have an issue with it.

Then came Stoudemire.

“I would shower across the street, make sure my change of clothes are around the corner, and drive, take a different route to the gym,” he replied.

Asked if he was joking, STAT answered: “I mean, there’s always a truth within a joke.”

In 2012, Stoudemire was fined $50,000 by the NBA for tweeting a gay slur.
