Bruce Chen Takes Mound at World Baseball Classic Wearing…Black Rockports? (Pics)
Hold the phone. When did Steph Curry start designing baseball cleats?
Former MLB pitcher Bruce Chen, who came out of retirement to pitch for China in the World Baseball Classic, took the mound against Cuba on Tuesday night wearing what looked to be a pair of black Rockport walking shoes.
I am not joking. Take a look at the side-by-side comparison:
Needless to say, Twitter had a good laugh about Bruce’s choice of footwear:

Upon closer inspection, it turns out that Chen’s shoes were, in fact, baseball cleats. They were just really ugly ones.
Of course, today team China probably wishes their other pitchers were wearing these bad boys. Bruce Chen pitched 2-2/3 scoreless innings to start the game, but the Cubans scored six off everybody else en route to a 6-0 victory.
