Dallas Mavericks legend Dirk Nowitzki became a member of a very elite club in front of hometown fans on Tuesday night. The seven-foot power forward from Würzburg, Germany, joined Kareem, Karl, Kobe, Jordan, and Wilt as just the sixth player in NBA history to score 30,000 career points.

Dirk came into Tuesday’s game against the Lakers 20 points shy of the 30K plateau, and apparently he didn’t feel like letting the suspense drag on, because he scored 18 points in the first quarter. Then, just over a minute into the second, he drained a signature fadeaway over an outstretched Larry Nance Jr., sending the American Airlines Center into a frenzy.

A minute later, with the crowd still going crazy, Nowitzki put an exclamation on his historic achievement by sinking a three-pointer from the top of the key. At that point somebody finally called a timeout, and Nowitzki was mobbed by his teammates—and a boyishly exuberant Mark Cuban.
